With each passing day, the chill of winter becomes a more distant memory as we look forward with growing anticipation to spring. Our March/April 2024 edition brims with stunning homes, gardens and destinations that should fill you with fresh ideas for the months ahead.

Yearning to get out and explore at this time of year, our “Discovery Guide” focuses on the “twin sisters” of Normandy’s Côte Floral – Deauville and Trouville – renowned for their broad sandy shores and stunning Belle Époque villas. You’ll find even more to love about this area’s special atmosphere in this issue’s featured “Portfolio” by French photographer Aude Jolijour which showcases the color and whimsy of its iconic beach umbrellas.

As France slowly awakens from its frozen slumber, it’s such a pleasure to stroll about its many remarkable gardens and get immersed in their timeless beauty. From grand and storied estates to more intimate havens – they are sources of endless wonder and inspiration. We also share a bit of little-known history about the growing population of parakeets that have happily made Paris their adoptive home.

This edition features several dazzling spring interiors. We explore the beautiful renovation of the Château Chanet in the Perigord and take a closer look at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, commissioned by one of France’s most prominent socialites of the early 20th century.

Finally, with Easter coming rapidly upon us, we turned to Eve Cardi, one of our favorite food stylists, for guidance on pulling together the perfect meal with an equally exquisite tablescape using spring bulbs.

Coastal Chic

This issue’s Portfolio transports us to the gorgeous shores of Trouville-sur-Mer, a vibrant maritime town rich in history, culture, and undeniable charm, which is featured in our Discovery Guide alongside its twin sister Deauville. Those who come here are attracted not just to the expanse of golden beach and crashing waves of the English Channel, but also with a spectacle that has become synonymous with leisurely sophistication: its iconic beach tents and umbrellas, here captured in their billowing glory by Aude Jolijour.

Destination France: Building on Tradition

Luxuriate in the interior of Château de Chanet, a vision brought to life by Laetitia Morlat after her return to the picturesque Périgord in the late 1990s. Now one of five luxury estates that collectively constitute the Domaine de Vieux-Mareuil – all owned and carefully restored by Laetitia – this delightful accommodation is an ideal base for exploring the region, Bergerac’s vineyards and the city of Bordeaux.

Royal Revival

Take a step into a verdant time machine back to the age of the French monarchy with a walk through the gardens of Château de Chambord. After centuries of benign neglect, its expansive gardens underwent major restoration that successfully returned them to their former glory as a full jardin à la française (French formal garden) as the royals of the 17th and 18th centuries intended.

Easter in Bloom

Start thinking ahead to those big springtime events with family quickly approaching! Culinary stylist Eve Cardi has created a collection of traditional French Easter recipes for us, complete with charming tablescape inspiration for an unforgettable spring holiday meal.
