For the past 16 years, the famous Parisian department store, La Samaritaine, has been shuttered. On June 23rd, much to local and international delight, this will change.

Built back in 1870, at a time when department stores were just starting to emerge, the design embodies the modernized Paris of Baron Haussmann. Situated in the heart of Paris between the Louvre and Notre-Dame, its captivating features โ Art Nouveau frescoes, ornate tiling, gold leaf details, a glass roof, a monumental staircase and more โ are a wonderful backdrop to over 600 luxury fashion, lifestyle, beauty and culinary brands. The historic buildingโs renovation was a much-anticipated renaissance, involving 1,800 on-site workers and costing a whopping 500 million euros. The refurbishment, one of the biggest architectural projects in Europe, restored the Parisian icon to its former glory (and then some), adding 96 social housing units, offices and a crรจche.
