In June, the fields of Provence begin to shift from green to violet as the air takes on an intoxicating aroma from the region’s iconic flower. Lavender has been central to French life for centuries. It has scented the linen cupboards of French grandmothers, found its way into the apothecaries and perfumers of Grasse, and became the raw material for some of the world’s most beloved soaps, perfumes, and beauty products.

Today, lavender remains one of France’s most recognized signatures. The best French lavender products carry that rootedness with them, with a fidelity to origin, to craft, and to the pleasure of a soothing scent. With lavender season upon us, here are ten authentic French lavender products to indulge in the smell of summer in France.
Terre Ugo — Lavender Oil Diffuser

Terre Ugo is a Provençal brand that works directly with local lavender producers, and their approach to diffusion is refreshingly low-tech. This ceramic diffuser pairs with their lavender essential oil to scent a drawer, wardrobe, or car. It’s simple, effective, and designed to last. Drop in the oil, tuck it somewhere you open every day, and let the diffuser do the work.
Elsa Lenthal — Lavender Wands

The lavender wand — known in Provence as a fuseau de lavande — is one of the oldest forms of lavender craft: fresh stems bent back over the flowers and woven with ribbon to trap the scent inside. Elsa Lenthal, based in Provence, makes hers by hand using this ancestral technique, and the result is a practically magic wand that will perfume a linen cupboard for years. They also double as lovely decor objects in a range of colors.
Elsa Lenthal — Relaxation Eye Pillows

Also from Elsa Lenthal, these eye pillows are filled with a combination of dried lavender and round Camargue rice — a traditional pairing that holds temperature well and releases scent gently with body heat. Use them chilled from the fridge for tension headaches or warmed briefly in the microwave to decompress at the end of a long day. A small and simple luxury that earns its place on the bedside table.
Le Château de Ma Mère — Lavender Cushions

Le Château de Ma Mère brings a playful wit to Provençal tradition. Their lavender cushions — filled with dried lavender flowers and printed with the brand’s signature motifs — are decorative objects that also function as room fragrance. Place one on a chair, tuck it into a guest room, or set it in a wardrobe, and the scent carries without ever becoming too much. Along with the iconic scent, the colorful patterns also feel very “south of France.”
Marius Fabre — Lavender Soap

The Marius Fabre savonnerie has been operating in Salon-de-Provence since 1900, and their products are made the way Marseille soap has always been made — slowly, in large caldrons, with olive oil as the base. Their lavender bar is free from palm oil, colorants, and preservatives, and the liquid version, in its amber bottle, is equally good. This soap has been a French household staple for decades — for good reason.

Fragonard — Rose Lavande Eau de Parfum

Fragonard has been making perfume in Grasse since 1926, which puts them squarely in the tradition of the town that invented modern perfumery. Rose Lavande is one of their most appealing compositions: a velvety, full-blown rose sits over woody lavender notes, creating a distinctly feminine scent. Available both as an eau de parfum and in a solid format, it slips into a handbag perfectly for an on-the-go spritz of the south.
Diptyque — Lavender Candle

Diptyque’s lavender candle is the quickest and most substantial way to fill a room with the scent of summer gardens in France. It captures the aromatic, slightly sharp quality of lavender in the field rather than the softened, spa-adjacent version that appears in other candles. The quality of the wax and the longevity of the burn justify the price, and the vessel is worth keeping.
Le Chatelard 1802 — Lavender Room Fragrance

A small bottle with a significant reach. Le Chatelard 1802’s Lavande de Provence room spray is made in Provence using lavender essential oil, and a few spritzes into a room or onto linens is enough to shift the atmosphere. The brand has been producing lavender products for over two centuries, and this spray is one of the most accessible ways to bring that heritage into a home.
Panier des Sens — Moisturizing Hand Cream

Panier des Sens lavender hand cream has a texture that absorbs quickly without leaving residue, and the scent is true to the Provençal lavender they source from partner producers in the region. The formula is dermatologically tested and features patented fragrance technology. Applying just a small amount of cream on the palms and each finger makes for a soothing mid-day ritual that helps release tension while nourishing the skin.

L’Occitane — Lavender Shower Gel

To close the circle: a shower gel that smells of lavender from the first use to the last, rather than fading into something vaguely floral by mid-bottle. L’Occitane’s version lathers well, rinses clean, and begins every morning with a small reminder of why this plant has mattered to people for so long. Simple, reliable, worth it.
