If you haven’t yet explored our July/August 2024 magazine, we had the pleasure of featuring four summer cocktails with a French twist from La Compagnie du Mieux Boire, an artisanal liquor store in Paris’ 11th arrondissement. Today, they’re back to share one more cocktail recipe— their take on Negroni Spagliato.

You might wonder how a cocktail as inherently Italian as the Negroni Spagliato could be given a French twist. Well as Fabien, who spearheads the current team, explains: “As the French don’t have a particularly bitter palate, we’ve put our own spin on this cocktail by incorporating a quinquina Cap Corse” – an aromatic apéritif wine popular on the island of Corsica.

This unique twist is complemented by a light red vermouth sourced from the Pyrenees, made by Kina Karo, a 100-year-old producer from Occitania. To finish, it’s topped with a sparkling lime blossom mead. Making a lighter cocktail with a dry finish and aromatic profile, it evokes the essence of the French Mediterranean with every sip.

LCMB’s Negroni Spagliato

Ingredients:

Makes 1 serving

  • 1 oz Red quinquina Cap Corse
  • 1 oz Red vermouth (preferably by Kina Karo)
  • 1 oz Bulles de Ruches sparkling lime blossom mead
  • Garnish: Orange twist

Method:

Begin by filling a mixing glass with ice. Next, add your equal parts of red quinquina Cap Corse and red vermouth. Gently stir the ingredients until thoroughly chilled and properly mixed.

Once stirred, strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass or champagne flute and top with the sparkling mead. Stir again gently.

Garnish with a twist of orange peel for its citrusy aroma!
