Happy New Year and welcome to the first MFCH Magazine of 2024 – now entering its sixth year of publication! We trust that you’ve spent a wonderful holiday season filled with many joyful moments with your loved ones.

As always, our mission to bring you sumptuous French interiors, gardens and cultural glimpses remains unwavering, and with this edition, we have collected a veritable cabinet of curiosities to get you feeling inspired for the coming year.

Beginning with our Regional Guide, we take you on a snow-laden tour through Chamonix, and all the winter activities that this beautiful mountain town, located at the foothills of Mont Blanc, has to offer. Amongst our Interior features, discover the efforts of Tim Holding, a former Australian politician and his partner, Felicity Selkirk, currently rescuing and restoring the magnificent Château de Purnon.

We also invite you to take a rare peek inside an haute couture courtyard garden in central Paris – a realm of greenery designed with the same impeccable taste as its owner, Pierre Bergé, and his former partner, the designer Yves Saint Laurent. And, amidst the winter chill, Lucy Hunter shares her insights into designing bouquets from foraged flowers that will brighten your home.

Finally, we explore the redolent realm of the black truffle with a selection of recipes from L’Escapade, a delightful village restaurant in the Vaucluses region.

Magical Menagerie

Behind a modest storefront in the chic Paris neighborhood of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the gateway to a storybook kingdom hides in plain sight. For almost two centuries, the Maison Deyrolle, a taxidermy boutique, has been a mecca for scientists, artists and casual visitors who come to study and marvel at its astonishing collection of curiosities from the natural world.
