Welcome to the September/October edition of My French Country Home magazine!
The jubilant throngs of Paris Olympics athletes and spectators have now made their way home and the French have trickled back from their summer holidays – just in time to usher us into a new season of reflection and discovery. We are thrilled to present the September/October edition of My French Country Home.

Many of you who tuned into the Summer Games from afar may now be inspired to visit France in the near future. In that case, this issue’s Discovery Guide – focused on the stunning but little-known region of Corrèze – might pique your interest.
We also introduce you to some extraordinary French homes and gardens. Anne Boghossian, founder of the wallpaper brand Maison Ananbô, takes us on a tour of her 19th century property on the banks of the Dordogne River. We also explore a stylish 1970s-era house near Arcachon as well as an elegant vacation rental in Provence owned and renovated by the sought-after designer Alexandre Lafourcade and his mother, Dominique, a renowned landscape architect.
A stroll through the grounds of the Château de Valmer in the Loire Valley is always a pleasure, and we are fortunate to glimpse them through the camera lens of the talented Hervé Lenain. We also invite you to enjoy the portraits of some very glamorous barnyard birds by another one of our favorite photographers, Eric Sander.
To whet your appetite, we’ve pulled together a delicious menu from recipes by one of France’s grande dames of cuisine: the late Ginette Mathiot. Meanwhile, Franck Schmitt shares some pear-centric dishes to brighten your seasonal table.
Be sure to check out our recently discovered French creators and artisans, including Sophie Douzal, who pivoted from a career in public relations to develop her own décor and fashion brand. We also meet Valentina and Sébastien, a Paris couple producing stunning hand-blown glassware and terracotta objects.
Here’s a closer look at some of the unique features you’ll find in this new autumn issue:
Flock ‘n Roll
Since Roman times, the rooster – or coq gallois – has been a symbol of France and its people. Eric Sander, one of our favorite photographers, is especially captivated by their impressive variety and remarkable plumage. So, he decided to turn these barnyard birds into living works of art for one of our most eclectic Portfolio features ever!
Destination France – A Family Affair
In the heart of the Alpilles Massif – near the village of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence – along the winding waters of a gentle stream, lies Mas le Gaudre. This captivating 18th century building and garden live in harmony, enriched by its idyllic location and the exacting eye of its owner, one of France’s most sought-after designers.
Autumn’s Favorite Fruit
As the summer fades and the leaves begin to blush with color, we always look forward to the subtle flavor of perfectly ripened pears. Wholesome and versatile, pears go with just about everything, making for endless combinations, both savory and sweet. In this issue, we give you five creative seasonal creations to enliven your table this fall.
La Corrèze – Secret Sanctuary of the Southwest
Just next store to the Dordogne, the little-known region of La Corrèze in the Limousin may just be one of France’s best-kept secrets. Its breathtaking landscapes – imposing granite plateaus, heather-strewn valleys, placid lakes, serpentine rivers, and prehistoric caves – are dotted with stunning stone villages that look to be straight out of a fairytale.
